The word throwing comes from the Old English word thrawan meaning to twist or turn. It does not mean throwing clay across the room.

Over decades of experience, Greg has simplified the process into a series of teachable steps. A complete beginner can be successful on their first attempt following these steps. Even an experienced potter will benefit from learning these steps.

Rather than offering a step ladder of courses from Beginner to Intermediate to Advanced, each student starts at whatever level they are at, and progresses at their own pace. There is always more to learn. The only way to progress is through practice and repetition, but you need someone guiding you so that you aren't embedding bad habits.

Wheel throwing costs R390 per class. It is a bit more expensive than hand-building classes because it requires more individual instruction from the Tutor and uses up more materials.

Morning Classes are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9am until 12pm.

Evening Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm until 9pm.

There are many techniques to shape and form wet clay into a finished piece. These include Pinch and Pull, Coiling, and Slab Rolling. You can learn all of these techniques or just focus on the one that excites you. No experience is necessary but even seasoned potters will find that there is always more to learn. Pottery is a 4000 year old technology and a potter can spend their entire lifetime doing it and still have more to learn.

Hand Building classes cost R290 per class. This includes clay, glaze and firing costs.
